This is the plan for the evening:

Welcome

Virtual Reality Experience

The experience begins with the welcome of the entire crew in our immersive room located in the Local number 1 of the Moll de Mestral of Port Olímpic in Barcelona.
There you can enjoy a stunning Virtual Reality production aboard a modern sailing ship that travels through time to the sixteenth century.
We don’t want to go much further, but we assure you that you will be impressed.
Several “wow’s” will leave you speechless.
Get ready!
The experience is mind-blowing…

At sunset

We set sail for the stars

Afterwards, accompanied by your captain, we will settle in on the Blanca, a beautiful new catamaran built in July 203.
It has comfortable spaces, ideal for enjoying astronomical observations on its ample deck.
We will start our crossing a few moments before sunset.

During the first few miles of the crossing we will enjoy those beautiful contrasts that form in the Barcelona sky just before sunset.
Heading out to sea, and coinciding with the end of the evening twilight, we will reach an area where we can enjoy dark skies free of light pollution.

Minutes later

Navigation guided by the stars

Seafarers, unlike the inhabitants of big cities, we are lucky to live with these skies almost forgotten by urbanites, even visible to the “naked eye”.
We will sail enough miles to get away from the big Barcelona and its blinding lights.

We will have an astronomical monitor certified by the Starlight Foundation, passionate about navigation and astronomy, who will explain through some ancient instruments such as Kamal, astrolabe or sextant, how sailors were located at sea for hundreds of years, without GPS or electronic instruments.
We will also know curiosities of the sky and mythology.

With the help of a laser pointer we will learn to locate stars and constellations.
Jumping from star to star we discover some “asterisms” (figures that we imagine in the sky and that do not correspond to a specific constellation but that help us to “read the sky”).
We will discover myths and legends of some of these stars or constellations, such as the infidelity of Zeus and Callisto, the refuge of the Andromeda galaxy, or how Cassiopeia was condemned for her vanity.
We will also learn to know the names of the stars through a Planisphere that we carry on board and that is very easy to use.

During the observation we will be able to taste wines D.O. Alella, and exquisite freshly picked strawberries from the Maresme region.

Enjoy aboard the Blanca, a beautiful catamaran (Aventura 34′) new from July 2023 perfectly equipped.
It has comfortable spaces, ideal to enjoy astronomical observations on its wide deck.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I cancel the previously booked activity?

On each short or long experience page, you have the information and cancellation policy specific to it.
If you still have doubts, you can contact us and we will help you to solve them.

How can I pay at Sea Starlight?

All you have to do is pre-book your activity and fill in the contact information required on the screen.
Shortly, the person in charge of the chosen activity will contact you and will indicate the method of payment (usually by bank transfer or bizum).

If I am going to sail, is it necessary to have any previous experience?

Our experiences are designed for anyone with an interest and no sailing or astronomy experience is required.
Our instructors and skippers love to share their knowledge with all those who visit us.

What should I bring on the day of departure?

Before the activity you will receive a voucher with all the details of your reservation and with the main tips both for sailing and for making observations.
It will depend a lot on the time of the year and the area where you are going to do your activity, but keep in mind that as a general rule, in the sea even in summer it is always advisable to wear several clothes and if we are hot we will remove layers.
Always take some warm clothes for sailing!
The same thing happens when we do observations at night, that although they are months of heat, at night temperatures drop quite a lot and it is preferable to be prepared with a good jacket, a hat to cover our head and even gloves.

Can I hire an exclusive activity?

Of course.
It will depend on the availability in each case but it is very common to reserve a boat for a family or group exclusively.

Is the activity I am going to perform insured?

All our boats are duly registered in List 6 and are covered by Civil Liability Insurance and SOVI (Compulsory Travelers Insurance).
Insurance to cover the typical case of not coming because my grandfather got sick is another matter.
In such cases, you have to take out personal insurance.

Can I get dizzy?

If you tend to get seasick, tell your skipper and he/she will give you some recommendations to avoid seasickness as much as possible, although they are not infallible since each body reacts differently to this situation.

How long is the experience and how is the time distributed on land and at sea?

Although it depends on each territory and especially on weather conditions and sea conditions, the standard is approximately 1 hour of navigation and 2 hours of observation on land.

How will I know where to find the meeting point?

Prior to departure we will send you a Voucher with all the details of your reservation: meeting point, what is included in your trip… and the telephone number of the skipper or instructor.

Will I have telephone coverage during my trip?

Depending on the geographical area you are in, it is likely that on trips away from the coast you may lose mobile coverage.
